Advisory council set to expand again

The size of the interim government under the leadership of Dr Muhammad Yunus is set to expand once again.

The oath-taking ceremony has been scheduled for 11:00am tomorrow at Bangabhaban, and invitations have been sent to the guests.

At least three reliable sources from Bangabhaban, the Cabinet Division, and other government sources have confirmed this information to The Daily Star. However, the exact number of new advisors joining the council remains uncertain.

A special assistant to the chief adviser, who is currently serving an important ministry located in Building No. 6 of the Secretariat, is expected to be appointed as an advisor. When contacted by The Daily Star, the special assistant, on condition of anonymity, confirmed receiving an invitation for taking oath at Bangabhaban.

A Dhaka University teacher may also join as an adviser to the interim government.

Another source within the advisory council stated that following the death of Advisor Hasan Ariff and the resignation of Nahid Islam, the chief adviser has taken on additional ministerial responsibilities. Since he does not wish to manage too many ministries himself, the decision has been made to induct new members into the advisory council.

The government led by Yunus assumed office on August 8 last year. The size of the advisory council was subsequently expanded on August 16 and November 10. If expanded again, this will mark the third phase of new appointments to the interim government. The chief adviser has also reassigned responsibilities within the council multiple times.

Currently, the advisory council consists of 22 members, including the chief adviser. Additionally, three special envoys and special assistants hold advisory ranks, while three deputy minister-ranked special assistants assist the advisors of three ministries.
